New Music Monday

Right now I'm listening to one of the best albums I've heard in a while. Ben Folds came out with Rockin' The Suburbs on September 11, 2001. No connection with the date but give it a listen. If you like Chris Rice, Billy Joel, or just some rockin' piano ballads you need to pick this one up from iTunes!

Ok - little update... Be advised - Ben drops about 4 f notes in this album and I'm not talking about the musical note.

Cheap as Free!!

I have been talking with a few people in Marion about a facility for our new church plant. Lately I have been talking with Marion Children's services about their multi-purpose facility which has a gymnasium, a big classroom, a kitchen, and an awesome playground behind the building. My friend who used to work their said they rent it out for $20 an hour which was 'funomimal'! I went there today to meet with the director again and he told me there would be no charge... Needless to say it was confirmation from God that this is His business and I am privialged to be apart of what He is doing. Thank you Lord!!

Hidden Treasures

I am currently reading "Writing Better Lyrics" by Pat Patterson. The first chapter is called Object Writing: The Art of Deep Diving. The author makes mention that most people describe the place where they are, in the moment, describe mostly what they sense visually. She then asked the reader to do a little exercise in describing the room we are sitting by all five senses. I then closed my eyes and felt the wood floor under my feet... the scent of the grass being cut in my neighbors yard... the sound of my wife telling my youngest not to walk on the freshly mopped floor... the fabric of the couch I was sitting on... my hand ran in between the couch cushions and I found my keys that had been missing for a week! This book really works!!! -lol

Somewhere over the Rainbow

This was just outside the mall yesterday... I still feel like a kid every time I see a rainbow - especially one this big. I couldn't help it but I was stopping people in the parking lot that had not noticed it. I got a few looks but most were like "Dude... that is awesome!!"

Wolf Habitat

My kids and I went to this place near where my parents live. It is a wolf habitat and there are about 30 or so wolves in captivity...
My nephew (bottom right) took it upon himself to only accept money for his birthday to which he donated every cent to this place.

Unlucky Shark Teeth and Proper Burial Procedures

My oldest son Cameron was told by a friend at school that he got some money from the tooth fairy not only for his own teeth but for shark teeth as well. This morning Cam came out in his boxers and said to me "Dad, you don't get money for shark teeth" (with the little shark tooth in his hand).
I usually have a moral to the story but I don't want to be prophetic with this one. And since it's just a story, and not scripture, you can come up with your own interpretation.

I have to tell you what he did yesterday too. We were out in the yard and I heard some commotion coming from the side of the house. I walked over to see the kids hovered over a dead bird. Cam then, being the oldest and wisest of the group, took it upon himself to give the bird a proper burial. It was nothing more than the bird being picked up by a hand shovel and placed on top of the dirt with handfuls of dirt on top of it. It was somewhat of an Indian Burial but I thought it was pretty cool - and somewhat symbolic... just kidding.
Ok I will add a story on to the end of this one... Sometimes as a dad it is really easy to be impatient with your kids. It is at times like these that God shows us the redeemable qualities in our children and that they are indeed created in the image of Himself.

Accidental Perfection

I was riding home today from work listening to some music on shuffle. I like to be surprised when I'm listening to my ipod with a song I forgot I even had. Anyway... there were four songs straight in a row that there was this perfect playlist. All of the songs were in the same key and went from one emotion to the next without diverting. You call it coincidence - I call it accidental perfection.
